Procedure

The compound was prepared from 4-chloro-3-nitrobenzenesulfonyl chloride (1 g, 3.9 mmol), 2-methoxyaniline (0.53 mL, 4.7 mmol) and pyridine (1.6 mL) in CH2CL2 (2 mL). 4-Chloro-N-(2-methoxyphenyl)-3-nitrobenzenesulfonamide (0.345 g) was reacted with piperazine (0.111 g) to afford N-(2-methoxyphenyl)-4-(piperazinyl)-3-nitrobenzenesulfonamide. This was then treated with Raney-Ni and hydrazine monohydrate. The final product was isolated as its HCl salt. 1H NMR (DMSO-d6) δ 7.18-7.20 (m, 1H), 7.08-7.10 (m, 2H), 6.93-6.96 (m, 1H), 6.91-6.93 (m, 2H); 6.84 (dt, 1H), 3.56 (s, 3H), 3.22-3.27 (m, 4H), 3.00-3.02 (m, 4H); MS (posESI) m/z=362.1 (M+H+).
