Procedure
A mixture of 18.1 g. of 4-amino-3,5-dimethoxy-benzaldehyde, 11.3 g. of cyanoacetic acid ethyl ester and 3 drops of piperdine was heated at 120° C. for 1 hour in an open vessel, whereby the formed water evaporated. The residue was recrystallized from ethyl acetate/petroleum ether and there was obtained 4-amino-α-cyano-3,5-dimethoxy-cinnamic acid ethyl ester having a melting point of 134°-136° C.
