Procedure
The procedure for this reaction was the same as described above for methyl 6-tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy-2-naphthoate. A solution of imidazole (0.5 g, 7.4 mmol) in 2 mL of dry DMF was added to a solution of 2-hydroxy-9-fluorenone (Aldrich, 0.55 g, 2.8 mmol) and tert-butyldimethylsilyl chloride (0.5 g, 3.3 mmol) in 5 ML of dry DMF to give after workup 0.74 g (84%) of a yellow oil: 1H NMR (CDCl3) delta 7.612-6.891 (m, 7H), 0.994 (s, 9H), 0.224 (s, 6H); 13C NMR (CDCl3 delta 193.69, 157.04, 144.87, 137.52, 136.04, 134.73, 134.50, 127.92, 125.59, 124.28, 121.24, 119.56, 116.22, 25.60, 18.18, -4.46. ##STR34##
