Procedure

3,5-dimethyl-4-nitroisoxazole (2.50 g, 17.6 mmol) in 25 mL EtOH was dissolved. Piperidine (0.174 mL, 1.76 mmol) was added followed by propionaldehyde (1.52 mL, 21.1 mmol). The solution was heated at 90° C. overnight. The solution was concentrated and chromatographed using EtOAc to obtain the title compound (0.650 g, 22.5% yield).
