Cleanup Methods
Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Ventilation. NEVER direct water jet on liquid. Do NOT absorb in saw-dust or other combustible absorbents. Collect leaking liquid in covered plastic containers. Absorb remaining liquid in dry sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment.
SRP: Wastewater from contaminant suppression, cleaning of protective clothing/equipment, or contaminated sites should be contained and evaluated for subject chemical or decomposition product concentrations. Concentrations shall be lower than applicable environmental discharge or disposal criteria. Alternatively, pretreatment and/or discharge to a permitted wastewater treatment facility is acceptable only after review by the governing authority and assurance that "pass through" violations will not occur. Due consideration shall be given to remediation worker exposure (inhalation, dermal and ingestion) as well as fate during treatment, transfer and disposal. If it is not practicable to manage the chemical in this fashion, it must be evaluated in accordance with EPA 40 CFR Part 261, specifically Subpart B, in order to determine the appropriate local, state and federal requirements for disposal.
Solid remedies react with spilled liq to form skin that supresses fumes to permit close approach or completely solidifies spill.
Disposal Methods
SRP: The most favorable course of action is to use an alternative chemical product with less inherent propensity for occupational harm/injury/toxicity or environmental contamination. Recycle any unused portion of the material for its approved use or return it to the manufacturer or supplier. Ultimate disposal of the chemical must consider: the material's impact on air quality; potential migration in soil or water; effects on animal and plant life; and conformance with environmental and public health regulations.
Spillage Disposal
Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Personal protection: chemical protection suit including self-contained breathing apparatus. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. Do NOT absorb in saw-dust or other combustible absorbents. Collect leaking liquid in sealable containers. Absorb remaining liquid in dry sand or inert absorbent. Then store and dispose of according to local regulations. Cautiously neutralize remainder with lime or soda ash.

Methods of Manufacturing
Sulfur trioxide produced by the contact process is absorbed in concentrated sulfuric acid.
Oleum is produced industrially in contact plants, where sulfur trioxide- containing gases are passed through a special oleum tower. In a double-absorption plant this is located upstream from the intermediate absorber; otherwise it is upstream from the final absorber. ... Sulfur trioxide-containing gas enters the oleum-irrigated packed tower at ca. 200 °C. Depending on the desired product concentration, the tower is irrigated with 22% or 35% oleum at a temperature of ca. 40 - 50 °C. Oleum of higher concentration leaves the tower at ca. 60 - 80 °C. It is adjusted to the desired final oleum concentration by addition of concentrated sulfuric acid from the intermediate or final absorber of the contact plant, and is then cooled in special coolers. Product is withdrawn from the oleum circuit downstream from the cooler. Oleum of higher concentrations (e.g., 60 - 65%) is obtained by mixing 20 - 36% oleum with pure sulfur trioxide.
Formulations/Preparations
Grades: Commercial (10% to 70% free sulfur trioxide, depending on supplier); CP /chemically pure: a grade designation signifying a minimum of impurities, but not 100% purity/.
Sulfuric acid (100% H2SO4) containing varying amt of sulfur trioxide in soln. Less concentrated sulfuric acid is sometimes erroneously called "oleum".
Avail grades contain up to about 80% free sulfur trioxide.

説明Fuming sulfuric acid is also called oleum, which is a trade name. It is a heavy, oily liquid, colorless to dark brown depending on purity, and fumes strongly in moist air and is extremely hygroscopic. Fuming sulfuric acid is a solution of sulfur trioxide in sulfuric acid. Sulfur trioxide is forced into solution with sulfuric acid to the point that the solution cannot hold any more. As soon as the solution is exposed to air, the fuming begins, forming dense vapor clouds. It is violently water reactive, as are most acids. Oleum is also a strong irritant to tissue. The four-digit UN identification number is 1831.
使用In manufacture of fertilizers, explosives, dyestuffs, other acids, parchment paper, glue, purification of petroleum, pickling of metal.
一般的な説明Thick fuming yellow liquid. Density 16.5 lb / gal. Very toxic by inhalation. Corrosive to metals and tissue, quickly causing severe burns. Used to make chemicals, dyes, explosives and in petroleum refining.
