COLOURLESS LIQUID.
Other Experimental Properties
Moisture-sensitive
Organosilanes containing one or more Si--H bonds have excellent reducing capabilities. /Organosilanes/
Organo-functional silanes are noted for their ability to bond organic polymer systems to inorganic substrates. /Silane cmpd/
The reaction of organosilanes with halogens and halogen cmpd usually proceeds in good yield through cleavage of the Si--H bond and formation of the silicon-halogen bond. Reaction with fluorine, however, does not proceed satisfactorily because of cleavage of not only the Si--H but also C--Si and C--H bonds. Direct halogenation with chlorination, bromine, and iodine proceeds smoothly, however. /Organosilanes/

Fight fire from maximum distance. Dike fire control water for later disposal; do not scatter the material.
Use water spray, powder, foam, carbon dioxide. In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
First Aid Measures
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then refer for medical attention.
Rinse mouth.
First Aid
Signs and Symptoms of Triethoxysilane Exposure: Signs and symptoms of acute exposure to triethoxysilane may include irritation of the eyes, skin, mucous membranes, and respiratory tract. Also, severe ocular burns, headache, and anesthetic effects may be noted.
Fire Fighting Procedures
Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
Suitable extinguishing media: For small (incipient) fires, use media such as "alcohol" foam, dry chemical, or carbon dioxide. For large fires, apply water from as far as possible. Use very large quantities (flooding) of water applied as a mist or spray; solid streams of water may be ineffective. Cool all affected containers with flooding quantities of water. ... Use water spray to cool unopened containers.
Special protective equipment for fire-fighters: Wear self contained breathing apparatus for fire fighting if necessary.
Storage Conditions
Store in cool place. Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Containers which are opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Moisture sensitive.
Fireproof. Separated from strong oxidants, strong acids and strong bases.
Cleanup Methods
Methods for cleaning up: Contain spillage, and then collect with non-combustible absorbent material, (e.g. sand, earth, diatomaceous earth, vermiculite) and place in container for disposal according to local / national regulations. Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal. Personal precautions: Wear respiratory protection. Avoid breathing vapors, mist or gas. Ensure adequate ventilation. Remove all sources of ignition. Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Beware of vapors accumulating to form explosive concentrations. Vapors can accumulate in low areas.
Environmental precautions: Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Do not let product enter drains.
SRP: Wastewater from contaminant suppression, cleaning of protective clothing/equipment, or contaminated sites should be contained and evaluated for subject chemical or decomposition product concentrations. Concentrations shall be lower than applicable environmental discharge or disposal criteria. Alternatively, pretreatment and/or discharge to a permitted wastewater treatment facility is acceptable only after review by the governing authority and assurance that "pass through" violations will not occur. Due consideration shall be given to remediation worker exposure (inhalation, dermal and ingestion) as well as fate during treatment, transfer and disposal. If it is not practicable to manage the chemical in this fashion, it must be evaluated in accordance with EPA 40 CFR Part 261, specifically Subpart B, in order to determine the appropriate local, state and federal requirements for disposal.
Nonfire Spill Response
(Non-Specific -- Poisonous Liquid, n.o.s.) Keep unnecessary people away; isolate hazard area and deny entry. Stay upwind; keep out of low areas. Ventilate closed spaces before entering them. Remove and isolate contaminated clothing at the site. Do not touch spilled material; stop leak if you can do so without risk. Use water spray to reduce vapors.
Disposal Methods
SRP: The most favorable course of action is to use an alternative chemical product with less inherent propensity for occupational harm/injury/toxicity or environmental contamination. Recycle any unused portion of the material for its approved use or return it to the manufacturer or supplier. Ultimate disposal of the chemical must consider: the material's impact on air quality; potential migration in soil or water; effects on animal and plant life; and conformance with environmental and public health regulations.
Remove all ignition sources. Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Do NOT wash away into sewer.
Burn in a chemical incinerator equipped with an afterburner and scrubber but exert extra care in igniting as this material is highly flammable. This combustible material may be burned in a chemical incinerator equipped with an afterburner and scrubber. Observe all federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Contact a licensed professional waste disposal service to dispose of this material.

독성 정보
Environmental Fate
TERRESTRIAL FATE: Triethoxysilane is expected to undergo hydrolysis in the environment similar to most alkoxysilanes(1); a similar compound, trimethoxysilane, is reported to hydrolyze in aqueous conditions(2). The rapid hydrolysis indicates that absorption to soil and volatilization from moist soil will not be important environmental fate processes(SRC). Triethoxysilane is expected to volatilize from dry soil surfaces(SRC) based upon a vapor pressure of 8.5 mm Hg at 25 °C(SRC) determined from a fragment constant method(3). Biodegradation data were not available(SRC, 2009).
AQUATIC FATE: Triethoxysilane is expected to undergo hydrolysis in the environment similar to most alkoxysilanes(1); a similar compound, trimethoxysilane, is reported to hydrolyze in aqueous conditions(2). The hydrolytic half-life of trimethoxysilane in water is 0.3 minutes at 2 °C and pH 7.0(3). The rapid hydrolysis indicates that absorption to suspended soils and sediments, volatilization from water and moist soil surfaces, and bioconcentration in aquatic organisms will not be important environmental fate processes(SRC). Biodegradation data were not available(SRC, 2009).
ATMOSPHERIC FATE: According to a model of gas/particle partitioning of semivolatile organic compounds in the atmosphere(1), triethoxysilane, which has an estimated vapor pressure of 8.5 mm Hg at 25 °C(SRC), determined from a fragment constant method(2) is expected to exist solely as a vapor in the ambient atmosphere. Vapor-phase triethoxysilane is degraded in the atmosphere by reaction with photochemically-produced hydroxyl radicals(SRC); the half-life for this reaction in air is estimated to be 21 hours(SRC), calculated from its rate constant of 1.9X10-11 cu cm/molecule-sec at 25 °C(SRC) that was derived using a structure estimation method(3). However, due to the hydrolysis of this compound with moisture in the atmosphere, photolysis in the atmosphere is not predicted to be an important mode of removal, and should be considered secondary to hydrolysis(SRC). Triethoxysilane does not contain chromophores that absorb at wavelengths >290 nm(4) and therefore is not expected to be susceptible to direct photolysis by sunlight(SRC).

Soil Adsorption/Mobility
Triethoxysilane is expected to undergo hydrolysis in the environment similar to most alkoxysilanes(1); a similar compound, trimethoxysilane, is reported to hydrolyze in aqueous conditions(2). The rapid hydrolysis indicates that adsorption to soil is not expected(SRC).
Environmental Bioconcentration
Triethoxysilane is expected to undergo hydrolysis in the environment similar to most alkoxysilanes(1); a similar compound, trimethoxysilane, is reported to hydrolyze in aqueous conditions(2). The rapid hydrolysis indicates that bioconcentration in aquatic organisms will not be an important environmental fate process(SRC).
Volatilization from Water/Soil
Triethoxysilane is expected to undergo hydrolysis in the environment similar to most alkoxysilanes(1); a similar compound, trimethoxysilane, is reported to hydrolyze in aqueous conditions(2). The rapid hydrolysis indicates that volatilization from water surfaces and moist soil will not be important environmental fate processes(SRC). Triethoxysilane is expected to volatilize from dry soil surfaces(SRC) based upon an estimated vapor pressure of 8.5 mm Hg(SRC), determined from a fragment constant method(3).
Environmental Abiotic Degradation
The rate constant for the vapor-phase reaction of triethoxysilane with photochemically-produced hydroxyl radicals has been estimated as 1.9X10-11 cu cm/molecule-sec at 25 °C(SRC) using a structure estimation method(1). This corresponds to an atmospheric half-life of about 21 hours at an atmospheric concentration of 5X10+5 hydroxyl radicals per cu cm(1). However, due to the hydrolysis of this compound with moisture in the atmosphere, photolysis in the atmosphere is not predicted to be an important mode of removal, and should be considered secondary to hydrolysis(SRC). Triethoxysilane is expected to undergo hydrolysis in the environment similar to most alkoxysilanes(2); a similar compound, trimethoxysilane, is reported to hydrolyze in aqueous conditions(3). Triethoxysilane does not contain chromophores that absorb at wavelengths >290 nm(4) and therefore is not expected to be susceptible to direct photolysis by sunlight(SRC).
Probable Routes of Human Exposure
Occupational exposure to triethoxysilane may occur through inhalation and dermal contact with this compound at workplaces where it is produced or used. It is unlikely that the general population would be exposed to triethoxysilane as it is primarily used in a manufacturing setting. (SRC)

개요Triethoxysilane is an organosilicon compound with the formula HSi(OC2H5)3. It is a colourless liquid used in precious metal-catalysed hydrosilylation reactions. The resulting triethoxysilyl groups are often valued for attachment to silica surfaces.Compared to most compounds with Si-H bonds, triethoxysilane exhibits relatively low reactivity. Like most silyl ethers, triethoxysilane is susceptible to hydrolysis. As reducing agent, triethoxysilane can for example be used in reduction of amides, reduction of carbonyl compounds in the presence of cobalt(II) chloride as catalyst, Cu-catalyzed reductive hydroxymethylation of styrenes, and Rh-catalyzed hydrodediazoniation.
