REACTION OF ALPHA-NAPHTHYLAMINE WITH BROMOETHYLPHTHALIMIDE, FOLLOWED BY REACTION WITH HYDROGEN CHLORIDE
FROM ALPHA-NAPHTHYLAMINE & BROMOETHYLPHTHALIMIDE; BRATTON, MARSHAL, J BIOL CHEM 128, 537, (1939). /N-(1-NAPHTHYL)ETHYLENEDIAMINE/.
용도N-(1-Naphthyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride acts as a coupling agent for the spectrophotometric determination of aromatic amines, aminophenols, phenylenediamines, dinitroanilines, chloroanilines, thiols and sulfonamides. It is also used in the quantitative analysis of nitrate and nitrite in water samples by colorimetry. It is involved in the preparation of (N-1-naphthyl-ethylenediamine)-dichloroplatinum(II) by reacting with potassium tetrachloroplatinate.

EYES: First check the victim for contact lenses and remove if present. Flush victim's eyes with water or normal saline solution for 20 to 30 minutes while simultaneously calling a hospital or poison control center. Do not put any ointments, oils, or medication in the victim's eyes without specific instructions from a physician. IMMEDIATELY transport the victim after flushing eyes to a hospital even if no symptoms (such as redness or irritation) develop.
SMALL SPILLS AND LEAKAGE: If you spill this chemical, FIRST REMOVE ALL SOURCES OF IGNITION. You should then dampen the solid spill material with 60-70% methanol, then transfer the dampened material to a suitable container. Use absorbent paper dampened with methanol to pick up any remaining material. Your contaminated clothing and absorbent paper should be sealed in a vapor-tight plastic bag for eventual disposal. Solvent-wash contaminated surfaces with 60-70% methanol followed by washing with a soap and water solution. Do not reenter the contaminated area until the Safety Officer (or other responsible person) has verified that the area has been properly cleaned.
RECOMMENDED RESPIRATOR: Where the neat test chemical is weighed and diluted, wear a NIOSH-approved half face respirator equipped with an organic vapor/acid gas cartridge (specific for organic vapors, HCl, acid gas and SO2) with a dust/mist filter. (NTP, 1992)

N-(1-Naphthyl)ethylene Diamine Dihydrochloride was evaluated for the induction of sex-linked recessive lethal mutations in Drosophila melanogaster by the National Toxicology Program. Canton-S wild-type males were treated with concentrations that result in approximately 30% mortality. Following treatment, males were mated individually to 3 harems of Basc virgin females to produce 3 broods for analysis. The concentrations tested by injection (1500 ppm) or feeding (3500 ppm) were negative in this assay.
... Levels of Evidence of Carcinogenicity: Male Rats: Negative; Female Rats: Negative; Male Mice: Negative; Female Mice: Negative.
A bioassay for the possible carcinogenicity of N-(1-naphthyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride was conducted using Fischer 344 rats and B6C3F1 mice. N-(1-Naphthyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride was administered in the feed, at either of two concn, to groups of 50 male and 50 female animals of each species. Twenty-five rats of each sex and 50 mice of each sex were placed on test as controls. The high and low dietary concentrations of N-(1-naphthyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride admin to rats and male mice were 0.1 and 0.05 %, respectively. The high and low time-weighted avg concn admin to female mice were, respectively, 0.3 and 0.2%. The cmpd was admin in the diet for 104 wk, followed by an observation period of 4 wk for high dose rats, 3 wk for low dose rats, low dose female mice, and high dose female mice, and 1 wk for high dose male mice. ... In all groups, except for high dose females, adequate numbers of animals survived sufficiently long to be at risk from late-developing tumors. ... Under the conditions of this bioassay, dietary admin of N-(l-naphthyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride was not carcinogenic in Fischer 344 rats or B6C3Fl mice. ... Levels of Evidence of Carcinogenicity: Male Rats: Negative; Female Rats: Negative; Male Mice: Negative; Female Mice: Negative.
