After 5 minutes, 1.0 mL of diiodomethane was added dropwise over 20 minutes, and the mixture was stirred and allowed to come to room temperature and then stirred at room temperature for 2 days. Then 0.5 mL of water was added, followed by ethyl acetate, and the mixture was filtered through diatomaceous earth. The product was concentrated in vacuo and the residue was fractionated over silica gel (hexanes-dichloromethane (1:1) to dichloromethane, gradient) to give 0.8 g of 1-(1-fluorocyclopropyl)-3-(5-fluoro-2-methoxyphenyl)-3-methylbutan-1-ol as an oil which was used without additional purification.
