The method of preparation of 2-imino-4-methylpiperidine acetate, EXAMPLE 6, was used to convert 2-amino-5-methylpyridine to the title compound which was obtained as a white solid. The analysis of the product was found to be consistent with the proposed structure. m.p. 175-178° C. MH+=113; d1H NMR (D2O): δ3.28-3.21 (m, 1H); 2.79-2.70 (m, 1H); 2.49-2.43 (m, 2H); 1.79-1.67 (m, 2H); 1.73 (s, 3H); 1.30-1.23 (m, 1H); 0.82 (d, J=6.6 Hz, 3H).
