Procedure

The crude product was taken up in 200 cm3 of toluene, 0.5 g of p-toluene sulfonic acid was added, the reaction mixture was refluxed for 2 hours on a water separator and washed 3 times with 50 cm3 of saturated aqueous NaHCO, solution, and the solvent was removed in vacuo. Filtration through 200 g of silica gel (hexane/methylene chloride) gave 10 g (86%) of 22 as a colorless oil.
