A solution of 45 mg (0.1 mmol) of tert-butyl (3RS,4RS)-4-(4-hydroxymethyl-phenyl)-3-(naphthalen-2-ylmethoxy)-piperidine-1-carboxylate, 12 mg (0.12 mmol) of triethylamine and 12 mg (0.1 mmol) of pivaloyl chloride in 5 ml of methylene chloride was stirred at room temperature for 15 hours. For the working-up, the reaction solution was diluted with 10 ml of methylene chloride, then washed with 5 ml of water, dried over sodium sulphate and evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was chromatographed on silica gel using a 4:1 mixture of hexane, and ethyl acetate as the eluent. There were obtained 39 mg (73% of theory) of tert-butyl (3RS,4RS)-4-[4-(2,2-dimethyl-propionyloxymethyl)-phenyl]-3-(naphthalen-2-ylmethoxy)-piperidine-1-carboxylate as a colourless oil; MS: 549 (M+NH4)+.
