Ethyl 3-(4-diethylcarbamoylphenyl)-3-(3-methoxyphenyl)acrylate (308 mg) synthesized by the method described in WO97/10230 was dissolved in methanol (6 ml), added with 10% palladium/carbon (60 mg) and stirred at room temperature for 22 hours under a hydrogen gas atmosphere. Insoluble solids were removed by filtration, and then the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure to obtain 275 mg of the title compound. Yield: 89%.
