A solution of 2.0 g of cis-4-aminocyclohexanecarboxylic acid in 20 mL of methanol was combined with 3.57 mL of thionyl chloride, and stirred for 3 hours. The reaction solution was concentrated, and the residue was washed with ethyl ether to obtain 2.64 g of the desirable compound as colorless crystals.
