Procedure

A 2 N sodium hydroxide solution (1 mL) was added to a solution of methyl 5-(4-fluorophenyl)-2-{(E)-2-[3-methoxy-4-(4-methyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)phenyl]vinyl}-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylate (143 mg) in methanol (1 mL), and the reaction solution was stirred at room temperature for 1.5 hours and at 80° C. for 17 hours. The reaction solution was left to cool to room temperature. Then, 2 N hydrochloric acid (1 mL) was added to the reaction solution, which was then stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes. The solid precipitated from the reaction solution was collected by filtration to obtain 139 mg of the title compound.
