Procedure
A solution of NaOH (46.30 g, 1.16 mol) dissolved in 480 mL of H2O was added to a solution of 1-benzoyl-3-(3,5-dibromo-phenyl)-thiourea (96.0 g, 0.23 mol) in 1.20 L of THF. The resulting reaction mixture was stirred at 70° C. for 12 hours. THF was distilled off and extracted with ethyl acetate (×3). The combined organic layer was dried over Na2SO4, filtered and distilled off to get the crude residue that was washed with hexane to obtain the desired compound as a grey solid (68 g, 95%).
