To a solution of N2-(2-cyclopropylethyl)-8-(methoxy)-9-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)-9H-purine-2,6-diamine (3.30 g) in methanol (33.0 ml) at room temperature was added trifluoroacetic acid (3.30 ml) to give an orange solution. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 70 hours. The reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo to give a yellow solid which was then triturated in diethyl ether (100 ml) and filtered under vacuum to give an off-white solid (2.4 g).
