Procedure
4-Chloro-2-methylthiopyrimidine (1.6 g, 10.0 mmol), 2-benzofuranboronic acid (1.9 g, 12.0 mmol), tetrakis-(triphenylphosphine)-palladium (0.3 g, 0.3 mmol) were dissolved in dioxane (10 ml) and aqueous Na2CO3 (11 ml, 2M solution in water, 22 mmol) was added. The reaction was heated to 80° C. under argon for 16 h after which time the dioxane was evaporated and the reaction mixture diluted with water and extracted with CH2Cl2. The organic was dried (Na2SO4), concentrated and the residue purified by flash column chromatography (CH2Cl2:n-heptane 8:2) to afford the title compound (1.0 g, 43%) as a white solid. MS: 243.0 (MH+).
