Treat (+/−)-7-chloro-3-(2,2,2-trifluoroacetyl)-6-(2-phenyl-pyrrolidin-1-yl)-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-benzo[d]azepine (prepared essentially as described in Preparation 38) (80 mg, 0.19 mmol) with basic methanol in a similar fashion to the isolated enantiomers of (+/−)-7-chloro-3-(2,2,2-trifluoroacetyl)-6-(2-phenyl-pyrrolidin-1-yl)-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-benzo[d]azepine. Treat the resultant residue with excess 2 N HCl in diethyl ether to give the product as a white solid (57 mg, 82%).
