Procedure

In a 250 ml three-necked flask containing 20 g of (Z)-4-dodecenal in 50 ml of cyclohexane were added 8.4 ml of NH2OH (50% aqueous solution) over 30 minutes. The reaction was left overnight. The organic layer was decanted, washed with water and the solvent removed in vacuum to yield the oxime as a mixture 55/45 of 1-E and 1-Z.
