A 50-mL single-neck round-bottomed flask equipped with a magnetic stirrer and a reflux condenser was charged with 3,5-dibromo-1-methylpyridin-2(1H)-one (481 mg, 1.8 mmol), 209b (270 mg, 1.5 mmol), 1,4-dioxane (20 mL), Pd2(dba)3 (137 mg, 0.15 mmol), XantPhos (173 mg, 0.30 mmol), and cesium carbonate (978 mg, 3.0 mmol). After three cycles of vacuum/argon flush, the mixture was heated at 100° C. for 6 h. After this time the reaction was cooled to room temperature. It was then filtered and the filtrate was evaporated in vacuo. The residue was purified by silica-gel column chromatography eluting with 50:1 dichloromethane/methanol to afford 209c (540 mg, 89%) as a yellow solid. MS: [M+H]+368.0
