Procedure
The crude 2-Bromo-4-[5-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-1-methyl-1H-imidazol-4-yl]-pyridine (196 mg), 28% aqueous ammonium hydroxide solution (2.0 mL) and copper (I) oxide (84 mg, 0.59 mmol) are mixed in 1,4-dioxane (3.0 mL) in a microwave reaction tube. The mixture is heated at 150° C. for 25 min in a microwave reactor before water (30 mL) is added. The resulting mixture is extracted with EtOAc (3×25 ml). The organic layers are combined and concentrated to give the crude product. Purification by silica flash column chromatography using MeOH in DCM (gradient from 0% to 10%) affords 72 mg of desired product.
