Procedure

To acetic anhydride (0.53 mmol; 51 μL) under argon, at 0° C., was added formic acid (0.66 mmol; 25 μL). The reaction was stirred 2 hours at 60° C. After cooling to 0° C., the mixture was diluted with 1 mL of dry THF, followed by a solution of 2-(4-ethyl-2-methoxyphenoxy)aniline (0.21 mmol; 50 mg) in dry THE (1 mL). The reaction was stirred 2 hours at room temperature. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound (72 mg; quantitative) as a brown oil, used without further purification.
