Using 0.66 g (2.3 mmol) of 3-(4-cyano phenoxy)-5-hydroxy benzoic acid ethyl ester and 4-cyanobenzylbromide (0.45 g, 2.3 mmol) and following the procedure of Example 42(b) afforded 0.72 g of the required product. 1H NMR (DMSO-d6): δ 1.3 (3H, t), 4.3 (2H, q), 5.35 (2H, s), 7.16 (4H, m), 7.44 (1H, s), 7.66 (2H, s), 7.88 (4H, d).
