Procedure
4,4-Di(12-docosoxydodecyloxy)benzophenone (1.04 g, 867 μmol) was dissolved in chloroform (20 ml), and methanol (2 ml) and sodium borohydride (98 mg, 2.60 mmol) were added, and the mixture was stirred at 60° C. for 4 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, 0.5N hydrochloric acid (20 ml) was added and the mixture was stirred for a while. The aqueous layer was removed, and the organic layer was washed with water (10 ml)×2. The organic layer was evaporated under reduced pressure, and the residue was crystallized from methanol to give 4,4-di(12-docosoxydodecyloxy)benzhydrol (1.03 g, 857 μmol, 98%).
