A solution of 8-phenoxy-1,4-dioxaspiro[4.5]decane (1.05 g, 4.48 mmol) in 20 mL of THF/3N HCl (1:1) was stirred overnight at room temperature. The aqueous was extracted with EtOAc (3×). The combined organic layers were dried (MgSO4), and concentrated to give 4-phenoxycyclohexanone as an oil. MS (EI) calcd: M+H=191.1; found: 191.0.
