A mixture of 350 mg of t-butyl α-{5-[4-(6-hydroxy-2,5,7,8-tetramethyl-4-oxochroman-2-ylmethoxy)benzyl]-2,4-dioxothiazolidin-3yl}acetate (prepared as described in Example 49) and 4 ml of a 4N dioxane solution of hydrogen chloride was treated in the same manner described in Example 61, to give the title compound as a pale yellow powder, softening at 60°-70° C.
