A mixture of 13.7 g of 5-ethoxycarbonyl-2-methyl-pyridine-1-oxide and 15 g of acetic anhydride was stirred under reflux. Excess acetic anhydride was removed under a reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by distillation under a reduced pressure (110° C./0.1 mmHg) to obtain 10.0 g of ethyl 6-acetoxymethylnicotinate. ##STR7##
