Conc. aqueous HCl (4.75 g, 45.6 mmol) was added dropwise to a solution of cis-3,5-dimethyl-2-(3-pyridyl)thiazolidin-4-one (10 g, 48 mmol) from Example 2 in ethanol (50 ml) at room temperature. Then the mixture was cooled to 0° C., and the precipitated crystals were filtered and the title compound (9.621 g, 86.28 yield) was obtained. m.p. 190°-193° C.
