Procedure
A suspension of α,α-diethoxymethyl-β-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-1-naphthalenepropanol (250 mg), isomer A was stirred in 37% aqueous hydrochloric acid at 0° C. for 1 hour. The resulting emulsion was then stirred at 100° C. for 3 minutes and the flask was immediately cooled in an ice water bath. The precipitate was filtered, washed with water and dried in vacuo to yield the title compound (152 mg) as a white solid.
