In 45 ml of ethanol were dissolved 6.00 g of the 2'-hydroxy-4',6'-bis(methoxymethoxy)acetophenone obtained in Production Example 11 and 3.65 g of the p-methoxybenzaldehyde obtained in Production Example 25, and the solution was cooled to 0° C. and 55 of a saturated solution was cooled to 0° C. and 55 ml of a saturated solution of potassium hydroxide in ethanol was added to the solution. The mixture was stirred for 24 hours. After the reaction, the reaction liquid was diluted with water and neutralized with 6N hydrochloric acid, and the formed precipitate was recovered by filtration to obtain 8.17 g (yield=86.3%) of 2'-hydroxy-4,4',6'-tris(methoxymethoxy)chalcone.
