Procedure

In 80 ml of ethanol were dissolved 13.76 g of the 2'-hydroxy-4',6'-dimethoxy-3'-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)acetophenone obtained in Production Example 14 and 7.5 ml of p-anisaldehyde, and the solution was cooled to 0° C. and 120 ml of a saturated ethanol solution of potassium hydroxide was added to the solution. The mixture was stirred for 38 hours. After the reaction, the reaction liquid was diluted with water and neutralized with 6N hydrochloric acid, and the precipitated crystal was recovered by filtration, washed with water, dried and recrystallized from methanol to obtain 16.20 g (yield=81.4%) of 2'-hydroxy-4,4',6'-trimethoxy-3'-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)chalcone in the form of a yellow needle.
