4.1 g. 4,4-dimethyl-6,7-diamino-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-quinolin-2-one and 2.6 g. 4-cyanobenzaldehyde were stirred in 100 ml. ethanol for 7 days at 25° C. with the action of air. Subsequently, the reaction mixture was evaporated to 10 ml., mixed with 10 ml. water, filtered off with suction and recrystallised from ethanol/water (1:1 v/v) to give 5 g. of the title compound; m.p. 228 -233° C.
