A mixture of 36.9 g (0.130 mole) of bromobis(4-fluorophenyl)methane, 21.7 g (0.156 mole) of 3-bromopropanol, 16.6 g (0.156 mole) of sodium carbonate and a few potassium iodide crystals were heated to 130° C. for 16 hours. After cooling, the reaction mixture was diluted with water and extracted with ether. The ethereal phase was washed with water, dried on sodium sulfate and then concentrated to dryness. Distillation of the residue yielded 30.5 g (yield: 68%) of the desired propane.
