PROCEDURE

A solution of 750 mg (1.40 mmol) of the intermediate obtained in Step A in methanol containing 2 drops of trifluoroacetic acid was hydrogenated at room temperature and 40 psi in the presence of 300 mg of 30% palladium on carbon for 3 days. The catalyst was removed by filtration through Celite and the filtrate concentrated under vacuum to give 600 mg (1.34 mmol, 96%) of product. 1H NMR (200 MHz, CD3OD): 1.22 (d,7 Hz,3H), 1.37 (s,3H), 1.39 (s,3H), 2.14 (m,1H), 2.3-3.0 (m,6H), 3.09 (dd;2,11 Hz;1H), 3.93 (m,1H), 4.38 (dd;8,12 Hz;1H), 7.05 (d,8 Hz,1H), 7.10-7.35 (m,3H).
