N-bromosuccinimide (52 mg, 0.3 mmol) was added to a solution of 238 (42 mg, 0.3 mmol) in acetonitrile (1.4 mL). The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 days. The mixture was diluted with saturated sodium bicarbonate solution (10 mL) and extracted with dichloromethane (3×5 mL). The combined organic extracts were dried with sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. Flash chromatography (ISCO system, silica, 0-5% ethyl acetate in hexane) provided 239 (47 g, 73%) as a liquid.
