A mixture of methyl 4-(5-(3,4,5-trichlorophenyl)-5-(trifluoromethyl)-4,5-dihydroisoxazol-3-yl)-2-methylbenzoate (4.1 g, 8.8 mmol) and NaOH (3.5 g, 88 mmol) in THF—H2O-MeOH (1:1:1, 90 mL) was stirred at rt for 18 h. The mixture was acidified with 2 N HCl and extracted with ethyl acetate (50 mL×3). The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 4-(5-(3,4,5-trichlorophenyl)-5-(trifluoromethyl)-4,5-dihydroisoxazol-3-yl)-2-methylbenzoic acid (3.8 g; yield 95%) as a white solid. MS: m/z=451.7 (M+1, ESI+).
