Procedure

A 50 mL round bottom flask was charged with 4-[5-(3,4-dimethoxy-phenyl)-1H-indol-2-yl]-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (500 mg, 1.15 mmol), dichloromethane (5.8 mL), and 1M hydrochloric acid in diethyl ether (5.8 mL) and the resulting mixture stirred for 2 h. The resulting mixture was then concentrated in vacuo, the residue triturated with diethyl ether, and then placed under high vacuum to yield 5-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-2-(piperidin-4-yl)-1H-indole. 1H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 7.69 (s, 1H), 7.29-7.37 (m, 2H), 7.09-7.22 (m, 2H), 6.99 (d, J=8.2 Hz, 1H), 6.22 (s, 1H), 3.84 (s, 3H), 3.78 (s, 3H), 3.67-3.74 (m, 1H), 3.02-3.15 (m, 4H), 2.50-2.61 (m, 2H), and 1.81-2.01 (m, 2H); MS (ES+) 337 (M+1).
