A solution of 2-chloro-5-(methoxymethoxy)pyridine (0.620 g, 3.6 mmol) and 1,1′-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene-palladium dichloride (0.13 g, 0.18 mmol) in THF (7 mL) was cooled to 0° C. 2-methyl-1-propenylmagnesium bromide, (0.5 M in THF) (9.3 ml, 4.6 mmol) was added slowly and the reaction was allowed to stir 12 hrs at RT. The reaction was quenched by the addition of a 10:1 aqueous sat ammonium chloride/ammonium hydroxide solution and extracted into ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers were washed with 10:1 aqueous sat. ammonium chloride/ammonium hydroxide solution, water, brine, dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated. The crude product was purified by filtration through a plug of silica gel (2:1 Hexanes/EtOAc) to afford the title product. MS m/z: 194.1 (100%, M+1).
