To a solution of [(S)-1-(2-Hydroxy-1-pyridin-2-yl-ethylcarbamoyl)-ethyl]-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester (556 mg, 1.79 mmol) in dioxane (1 mL) was added 4 N HCl in dioxane (2.24 m, 8.95 mmol). The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 1 h. Removal of solvents in vacuo provided the title compound (S)-2-Amino-N-(2-hydroxy-1-pyridin-2-yl-ethyl)-propionamide (580 mg) as a HCl salt. m/z 210.96 [M+1]+
