2-Propoxy-4-trifluoromethyl-benzaldehyde (232 mg, 1 mmol) in toluene was reacted with methyl (triphenylphosphoranylidene)acetate (382 mg, 1.14 mmol) at 110° C. overnight. The reaction solvent was removed under reduced pressure. Water (30 ml) was added to the resulting residue, which was extracted with ethyl acetate (30 ml×3). The combined organic layer was washed with brine (30 ml) and dried over MgSO4. The filterate was purified with column chromatography to yield title compound (198 mg, 69%).
