In a flame dried round-bottomed flask equipped with a magnetic stir bar and under inert atmosphere (N2), a solution of 1-(4-chloromethyl-thiazol-2-yl)-ethanol (2.19 g, 12.31 mmol) in CH3CN (122 mL) was treated at rt with MnO2 (5.94 g, 61.52 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at rt until completion of the reaction, and then filtered through Celite. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give the title compound as a yellow oil. LC-MS-conditions 02: tR=0.84 min.
