To a solution of (±)-benzyl (5-oxo-2-phenyl-1,1′,3′,5-tetrahydrospiro[imidazole-4,2′-inden]-5′-yl)carbamate from Step A (568 mg, 1.94 mmol) in degassed MeOH (2 mL) was added 10% palladium on carbon (5 mg). The suspension was placed under a hydrogen balloon for 3 h, then filtered through a pad of Celite, concentrated, and dried under high vacuum to give the title compound. MS: m/z=278 (M+1).
