Procedure

To a solution of (±)-5′-nitro-2-propyl-1′,3′-dihydrospiro[imidazole-4,2′-inden]-5(1H)-one from Step A (20.0 mg, 0.073 mmol) in degassed MeOH (5 mL) was added 10% palladium on carbon (10 mg). The suspension was placed under a hydrogen balloon for 1 h, then filtered through a pad of Celite, concentrated, and dried under high vacuum to give the title compound. MS: m/z=244 (M+1).
