To a solution of (±)-2-tert-butyl-5′-nitro-1′,3′-dihydrospiro[imidazole-4,2′-inden]-5(1H)-one from Step B (22.0 mg, 0.077 mmol) in degassed MeOH (5 mL) was added 10% palladium on carbon (10 mg). The suspension was placed under a hydrogen balloon for 1 h, then filtered through a pad of Celite, concentrated, and dried under high vacuum to give the title compound. MS: m/z=258 (M+1).
