Procedure
A 100 mL round bottom flask was charged with 2,6-dibromo-3-methyl-5-(4-methylpiperazin-1-yl)pyrazine (2.0 g, 5.7 mmol), hydrazine hydrate (3.5 g, 0.065 mol) and absolute EtOH (30 mL). The resulting solution was refluxed under N2 atmosphere overnight. Work-up: the solvent was evaporated. The residue was washed with EtOH (10 mL) and dried, to afford 0.92 g (54%) of the product as a yellow solid.
