Procedure
A 100 mL round bottom flask was charged with tert-butyl 4-(4-amino-5-bromopyrimidin-2-yl)piperazine-1-carboxylate (2.0 g, 5.6 mmol), N,N-dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal (0.9 g, 7.3 mmol) and toluene (60 mL). The resulting mixture was heated at reflux for 12 h. Work-up: the solvent was evaporated to dryness to afford the product, which was used in the next step without further purification.
