6,8-Dichloro-7-(4-(4-chlorophenethylcarbamoyl)phenoxy) chroman-4-carboxylic acid (22.78 g, 43.26 mmol) was dissolved in THF (100 ml) and 0.5M NaOMe solution in MeOH (86.52 ml, 43.26 mmol) was added at ambient temperature. The mixture was stirred for 1 hour and concentrated. A very thick light brown solid was obtained. The crude solid was treated with EtOH-hexanes and filtered to provide 23.4 g of the title compound as a white solid (99%). MS (apci) m/z=520.1 (M+2H-Na).
