A mixture of 3-(quinolin-8-yl)phenol (221 mg, 1 mmol) and (R)-2-(chloromethyl)oxirane (114.6 mg, 1.2 mmol) in CH3CN (10 mL) had K2CO3 (690 mg, 5 mmol) added to it. The reaction mixture was then stirred at 80° C. for 4 h. The solid was removed by filtration, the filtrate concentrated, and the crude product used in the next step without further purification. ESI-MS (m/z): 278.3 [M+1]+.
