A mixture of (Z)-methyl N-3-methylbut-2-enoylpyrrolidine-1-carbimidothioate (2.515 g, 11.1 mmol, Eq: 1.00) and (2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)hydrazine (5 g, 30.7 mmol, Eq: 2.76) was stirred for 1 hour at 100° C. The mixture was dissolved in ethyl acetate and washed with water 3 times and once with brine. The organic layer was separated, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtrated and evaporated affording 5-(2-methyl-prop enyl)-3-pyrrolidin-1-yl-1-(2,2,2-trifluoro-ethyl)-1H-[1,2,4]triazole (1.599 g/52.5%) as an off-white waxy solid. MS: m/e=275.4 (M+H+)
