Procedure
Hydrogen chloride gas was bubbled for 1 min. into a solution of ((R)-9-amino-4-oxo-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-benzo[b][1,4]thiazepin-3-yl)-carb amic acid tert-butyl ester (560 mg, 1.8 mmol) in dioxane (15 mL) at 0° C. and the reaction was warmed to RT. After 1 h the mixture was concentrated and the residue was triturated with Et2O. The resulting solid was filtered, washed with hexanes and dried to give (R)-3,9-diamino-2,3-dihydro-5H-benzo[b][1,4]thiazepin-4-one dihydrochloride (500 mg. 99%).
